MP says card is a great improvement for local commuters

Today John Baron MP has welcomed the release of the new c2c Smartcards for local rail passengers. Therefore, commuters in Basildon and Billericay have the opportunity to transform how they buy their tickets from today as the c2c Smartcard is now available for all local c2c season ticket holders.

For the first time today, local commuters whose season tickets include a London travelcard can switch their paper tickets for c2c Smartcard which is used the same way as the Oyster card. The smartcard can be used to travel on c2c and Transport for London services, within the zone their ticket covers. The scheme will also be extended to daily tickets in the next few months.

John said,

“c2c Smart is an excellent initiative which will make commuters lives much easier. It will also allow automatic compensation in certain circumstances. Well done to the team.”

Julian Drury, Managing Director of c2c Rail Ltd, said,

“We think c2c Smart will be a hit with Essex commuters, and predict thousands will start switching to the cards in the next few months. Customers can benefit immediately by beating the queues and buying themselves five minutes more in bed. In the future they’ll get even more benefits from c2c Smart, as it will help us provide automatic compensation for delayed trains and discounts for those who choose to travel outside the peak.”
