John Baron MP encourages local groups to host Silver Sunday events

MP says local businesses, charities, schools and community groups should help support older people

John Baron MP has today called on local businesses, charities, schools, faith, community and youth groups in Basildon and Billericay to host a ‘Silver Sunday’ event this October. Silver Sunday will be on Sunday 6th October and it is a day for people to come together to celebrate older people by making them feel valued, give them new opportunities to get out, learn new skills, make new friends and connect with the communities and generations around them. Last year there were 1,000 events nationwide attended by tens of thousands of older people.

John said:

“I encourage local businesses, charities, schools and groups in the Basildon and Billericay area to come together and host a Silver Sunday event on 6th October. Loneliness is a real problem amongst the older generations and events such as these can have a real benefit, not just to older people, but to the community as a whole.”
