MP: Funds will help ensure access to safe accommodation
As part of a £125 million Government fund to support victims of domestic violence, Basildon Council is to receive £34,097, with Essex overall receiving £2,763,458. This will help victims and their children access life-saving support in safe accommodation, including advocacy, counselling and therapy in safe locations such as refuges or specialist safe accommodation. Under a new duty inside the Domestic Abuse Bill, councils will be required to provide support to domestic abuse victims and their children within safe accommodation services. This funding is part of a wider package of support for victims of rape and domestic abuse, including the ‘Ask for Ani’ codeword scheme.
John said,
“Domestic abuse is a terrible crime, and I am pleased the Government is taking further steps to support victims and their children. These funds will help ensure that anyone who needs access to safe accommodation and support services will be able to do so, and I am sure they will be put to good use.”
