MP backs campaign to catch cancer sooner
John Baron MP recently attended a Parliamentary reception organised by Cancer Research UK (CRUK). The aim of the reception was to update MPs on the charity’s latest fundraising and awareness campaign to help beat cancer sooner.
With the number of people with cancer set to rise steeply by 2030, CRUK has launched a summer awareness drive which aims to raise money to accelerate research into cancer treatments. The campaign features a series of TV, radio, and billboard advertisements across the UK which carry the message: ‘One day, we will beat cancer. Help make it sooner.’
People can support the campaign in many ways, whether by donating or buying goods from the charity’s shops, volunteering for a few hours a week, supporting events such as the Race for Life series or signing up to make a regular donation.
John said:
“This is a valuable campaign, and I congratulate Cancer Research UK on its excellent work. Thanks to the generosity of its supporters and volunteers, CRUK’s work is helping to ensure more survive the disease.”
Sarah Woolnough, Cancer Research UK’s Executive Director of Policy and Information, said:
“Every step we take towards beating cancer relies on every pound, every hour and every person getting involved. So we hope people in Basildon and Billericay will really get behind us.”
“It’s great to have John’s support in raising awareness, as there’s still so much more we need to do to ensure no-one’s life is cut short by cancer. But by boosting support and funding now, the best research teams will be able to develop better ways to prevent, control and cure the disease and help save many more lives.’
