MP says UK law should be set by MPs at Westminster
As required by the EU Referendum Act 2015, yesterday the Government quietly published a report on the ‘Rights and Obligations of European Union membership’. The report states that Britain has ‘an obligation to comply with EU law’, and that ‘EU fundamental rights are also binding on Member States’ – making clear the EU law, and EU judges, trump British law.
John said,
“This report lays out the extent to which EU law overrides British law. This is unacceptable and anti-democratic – UK law should be made by MPs at Westminster, rather than an unelected bureaucracy in Brussels. Furthermore, EU courts should not be able to trump the decisions of our Supreme Court. For these and other reasons, I will be voting to leave the EU on 23rd June.”
“If Parliament can not stop unwanted EU taxes and laws, then we can not truly maintain the integrity of our borders, ensure the supremacy of our laws or control the extent of business regulation.”
