MP praises Personal Allowance uplift, tech tax and high street help
Having lobbied the Chancellor prior to the budget on these and other issues, John has welcomed key aspects of yesterday’s budget:
“Bringing forward our manifesto promise to increase the Personal Allowance to £12,500 will particularly help those on the lowest incomes, and will put £130 into the pocket of a typical basic rate taxpayer whilst taking many out of income tax altogether. This is One Nation politics in action.”
“An intent to appropriately tax the tech giants will address the wrong that firms earning billions from commercial activity in this country pay comparatively little tax. This is a step in the right direction pending a wide-ranging international agreement.”
“The cutting of business rates by a third for the next few years should also give a boost to our high street shops and small retailers, as should the £675 million Future High Streets fund to improve town infrastructure. The devil will be in the detail but such measures should help to maintain the character of our high streets.”
