MP encourages everyone to make submissions
Today the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Rt Hon George Eustice MP, is launching an eight-week consultation on ending the live export of animals for slaughter. This Britain has been unable to do under EU rules, and the Government is taking this step in line with its manifesto commitment to end this unnecessary practice and improve animal welfare at the first opportunity once the UK is no longer bound by these EU rules.
John said,
“Banning live animal export for slaughter has been high on the lists of animal welfare campaigners for many years, but EU rules have prevented us from ending this practice. Having raised this in Parliament, it is right the Government is taking the first possible opportunity to stop this, and spare animals unnecessary and avoidable stress prior to slaughter. I encourage everyone to make submissions to the consultation.”
