MP: Over 120,000 Kickstart jobs already created

The Government’s £2 billion Kickstart Scheme is creating thousands of new jobs for young people across Britain. Since it launched in September, more than 120,000 Government-funded Kickstart jobs have been created for 16-24 year olds on Universal Credit. It is becoming even easier for business of all sizes to join, and employers can apply directly for any number of placements. Under the scheme, the Government will pay 100% of the young person’s age-relevant National Minimum Wage, National Insurance and pension contributions for 25 hours a week, which the employer can choose to top up if they choose to. In addition, the Government will pay £1,500 per ‘Kickstarter’ to cover any associated set-up costs. Businesses can apply to the scheme directly, or through one of the over 600 Kickstart gateway organisations.

John said,

“The Kickstart scheme demonstrates the Government’s commitment to ensuring no young person is left behind as a result of the pandemic. Nationwide over 120,000 Kickstart jobs have already been created, with the potential for many more if the number of businesses participating in the scheme increases still further. I strongly encourage local businesses to sign up to it.”
