MP encourages farmers to have their say
Further to the Agricultural Transition Plan published last November, the Government is running a consultation on the proposed lump sum exit scheme and its proposals to replace the Basic Payment Scheme with delinked payments. These are intended to provide a fairer system for farmers, with more flexibility by opening up opportunities for new entrants to start their farm businesses while supporting those who are ready to leave the sector on their own terms.
John said,
“I encourage the farming community to submit to this consultation and have their say on these new schemes. At their core they are proposals to ensure that new blood and fresh ideas are able to come into the farming sector, whilst supporting those who might wish to leave the industry but do not feel financially able to do so.”
