MP says exporting key to recovery
John Baron MP will be signing Early Day Motion 2168 on behalf of the Essex Chambers of Commerce once Parliament reconvenes next week, urging Government support for exporting businesses. The EDM calls for ready access to products and services intended to help exporters in the current economic climate, as well as arguing that the Government’s Export Credits Guarantee Department should be made as effective as possible. These products and services are offered by UKTI, and are designed to facilitate British businesses in the forging of international trade contacts, by advising companies on the nature of overseas markets and by issuing grants to enable companies to attend trade fairs, as well as offering grants to foreign companies to attend trade fairs in the UK. The Export Credits Guarantee Department helps to underwrite some of the risks of selling into foreign markets, such as a guarantee to underwrite non-payment.
John said:
“Exports are essential to the well-being of the British economy, and are key to a sustainable economic recovery. The UKTI needs to do more to ensure that Government support for our exporters is clear and readily available.”
“We have many great businesses locally, but these businesses need to know how to access Government support in this difficult economic climate.”
