MP says this will help ease pressure on NHS

This year the Government is conducting the largest-ever ‘flu vaccination programme in England, in order to drive down the levels of this illness during the coronavirus pandemic. The NHS is working to give 30 million people a free ‘flu vaccine, including all primary school children (including Year 7 children for the first time), two- and three-year olds, vulnerable people, including adults aged 65 and over, those with long-term health conditions and pregnant women. In addition, those in household contact with people on the NHS Shielded Patient list and all health and social care workers with direct contact with people they care for will also be eligible for the free vaccination. Once uptake has been maximised in the most at-risk groups, newly eligible 50-64-year olds will be invited for vaccination later in the season.

John said,

“As we approach the winter, I would urge everyone who needs a ‘flu vaccination to have one. In addition to protecting against ‘flu and easing the pressure on the NHS during the pandemic, research suggests people who test positive for both ‘flu and the coronavirus at the same time can be very ill indeed.”
