MP: There will be changes regardless of trade agreement
The transition period will end on 31st December, at which point the UK leaves the EU Single Market and Customs Union. Regardless of the outcome of the negotiations with the EU, there will be changes which we should all prepare for. Businesses which import and export goods will need to follow new rules, as will businesses which deliver services between the UK and EU and businesses which have staff working between the UK and EU or that employ staff from the EU. Individuals travelling to the EU will have to check their health insurance and carry the correct driving documents, and there will be new procedures if travelling with pets.
John said,
“At the end of the transition period there will be changes, whether there is a UK-EU trade agreement or not. The Government is publishing extensive guidance as we near the end of the transition period, and I strongly encourage all businesses and individuals that interact with the EU, or intend to in the near future, to visit gov.uk/transition to ensure they have taken the necessary steps.”
“Leaving the Single Market and Customs Union will allow Britain to capitalise on Brexit – we have already signed new trade and fisheries agreements – but people should be aware that things will change from 31st December and prepare accordingly.”
