9th March 2012

MP will be harnessing political support and working with Greater Anglia and local partners to help secure funding of better disabled facilities.

Today, John Baron MP officially opened the upgraded Billericay Train Station. The station – operated by Greater Anglia – has been transformed through an investment of £1.4m as part of the National Stations Improvement Programme. Attached are photographs. Also present were Cllrs. Tony Hedley, Tony Archer and Malcolm Buckley, as well as Town Cllr. John Buchannan.

 John said:

“These improvements will benefit those using the station. The better facilities including the extra ticket machines, upgraded lighting and CCTV are all welcome. Given that this money was apparently ring-fenced for station improvements some time ago, it is good Billericay was chosen for this investment by National Rail.”

“Looking forward, I intend to solicit political support across the town in applying for extra funding for a disabled lift. We will be joining forces with Greater Anglia when making the application.”
