MP questions Minister on National Planning Policy Framework
Today, during a Ministerial Statement on the in the House of Commons, John Baron MP raised concerns regarding the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), which was published this afternoon.
The NPPF contains reforms to planning policy, and is intended to empower local communities to make their own planning decisions, support the creation of new homes and jobs as well as protecting our natural and historic environment.
In the House of Commons, John asked,
“Does the Minister agree that the ‘acid test’ of the reformed planning framework will be whether any Green Belt is developed against the wishes of local residents?”
The Minister for Local Government and Communities, Rt Hon Greg Clark MP, replied that development should be refused except in very tight circumstances.
Afterwards, John said,
“The presumption in favour of ‘sustainable development’ has understandably worried residents, and therefore we need to ensure that Green Belt safeguards remain very much in place. We will continue to monitor the Government on this important issue.”
