MP and others suggest ‘The Elizabeth Clock Tower’ in letter to the House of Commons Speaker

John Baron MP has added his name to a letter to the Speaker of the House of Commons calling for the Clock Tower to be renamed ‘The Elizabeth Clock Tower’ to mark Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee. Parliament’s other tower was named ‘The Victoria Tower’ in honour of Queen Victoria’s reign. Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II are the only two Monarchs of the 41 who have reigned over England and the United Kingdon since William the Conqueror to reach their Diamond Jubilee.

John said:

“This gesture is a token of Parliament’s appreciation for Her Majesty’s long and dedicated service to the nation. Parliament’s other tower was named in honour of Queen Victoria’s reign, and so it seems fitting that we should rename the other tower after our only other Monarch to reach her Diamond Jubilee since 1066.”
