MP says Festival also highlights the strong local voluntary ethos
Today John Baron MP officially opened the ‘Celebrating Billericay’ festival of flowers, art and music at St Mary Magdalen in Billericay High Street. The ecumenical organising group, Churches Together in Billericay [CTB], organised the event which is being held from 11th to 13th June. John was asked to say a few words when conducting the opening.
A number of local organisations are participating including the Billericay Arts Association, the Women’s Institute, the Scouts and Guides, the Horticultural Society and Mayflower Wine Club. Proceeds from the festival will be divided between the local charities Hamelin Trust and Anvil Trust, and further refurbishment of St Mary’s.
John said:
“Not only is this festival celebrating the many leisure activities enjoyed by Billericay residents, but it is also a reminder of the strong voluntary ethos that exists locally. We have a proud tradition of looking after those less fortunate than ourselves in this part of the world, and this is also cause for celebration.”
“Congratulations to Linda Gilbey and Janet Lee for co-ordinating the planning and to all the members from the CTB churches who have helped. This was a great team effort, and many people will benefit.”
