MP highlights the importance of early diagnosis
On Wednesday John Baron MP sponsored an event in the Houses of Parliament organised by Bowel Cancer UK. The purpose of the event, which was open to all MPs and Peers, was to mark 25 years since the foundation of the charity, as well as to launch a major new report into bowel cancer care in the UK. The report also highlighted how to reduce mortality, increase survival rates and improve the patient experience for people affected by bowel cancer.
At the event, Deborah Alsina, CEO of Bowel Cancer UK, said,
“We want to dramatically improve outcomes for people affected by bowel cancer, minimising the disease’s impact and helping people lead longer, healthier and happier lives.”
“We look forward to working with the Government, NHS and other charities to help save more lies from the UK’s second biggest cancer killer.”
John said,
“The last 25 years have seen improvements in bowel cancer treatment. However, there is still a huge amount to be done. People need to be better informed about the symptoms, and the NHS must do all it can to increase the uptake of screening.”
“The earlier the disease is detected, the better the outcomes for patients and their families. 90% of bowel cancer cases are curable if detected early enough”
“Bowel Cancer UK has done a great job supporting patients and battling against the disease over the past 25 years, and I am proud to sponsor their event.”
