MP: great enthusiasm for ‘chocolate debate’
On Friday, John Baron MP visited Quilters Junior School, Laindon Road, Billericay at the invitation of Headteacher, Michael Wade. John discussed his role as an MP with 20 members of the School Council and then attended the whole school assembly where he held his popular ‘chocolate debate’ as a way of illustrating how the House of Commons works. John also discussed proposals for development of a piece of recreational land next to the school which they asked John to support. The school will be joining John’s Fun Walk on the 27th May.
John said:
“It was a great pleasure visiting the school. Lots of interesting questions from the School Council, an enthusiastic debate on whether chocolate should be free followed by a close vote, well behaved kids and dedicated staff and team, we look forward to the school joining us on our Fun Walk.
Michael Wade [Headteacher, Quilters Junior School] said:
“Our pupils really enjoyed Mr Baron’s visit. The school hall became the House of Commons with the children grouped according to their views on free chocolate; there was a Speaker and children even had to stand up if they wished to speak! It was a really fun, practical insight into the way democracy works!”
