MP solicits local political support

John Baron MP, Cllr Tony Ball [Leader of Basildon Council] and Town Councillor John Buchanan [Billericay town Council] have written to the Minister of State for Rail, Theresa Villers MP to request funding for the provision of a lift for the Southend-bound platform at Billericay Station. Currently, mobility-impaired passengers wishing to use the platform must access it through a side-gate via the carpark which is a much longer way around, and does not have a dedicated path. Although Billericay Station has recently been refurbished, funding was not allocated for a lift by the Government.

 John said:

“Whilst welcoming the improvements to the station, the funding did not stretch to the one remaining drawback to the station – that being the lack of a lift on the Southend-bound platform. Mobility-impaired passengers are at a real disadvantage as a result. This needs to be put right.”

“All local politicians from across the political divide support the need for a lift. Cllr Tony Ball and Town Cllr John Buchanan have therefore co-signed my letter to express that support.”
