Yesterday at Barleylands, the 11th annual Fun Walk [renamed ‘Jubilee Walk in honour of HM The Queen] looks set to break all records, with the number of walkers and charities taking part being the largest ever. The Walk started in 2002, to celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, with just 6 charities and £6,000 raised. This year over 100 charities and good causes benefitted with a record number of walkers participating, spurred on by the biggest ever bonus pot of £42,000 [up from £28,000 last year].

John said:

“The Jubilee Walk was the best yet. Over 800 people did the Walk on behalf of over 100 charities. It was a tremendous effort. The barn full of stalls also helped to raise awareness as well as money.”

“As ever, thanks go to the Fun Walk Committee, Team Handsome for a fantastic BBQ, and the lovely ladies – including Jane. Essex Police and numerous marshals and Cllrs also helped to ensure the Walk went smoothly.”

“Everyone was spurred on by a record-sized bonus pot generously donated by local businesses and individuals. Our thanks go to Swan Housing Association, NYSE Euronext, Veolia, c2c Rail Ltd, Toomey Motors, Hallmark Car Homes, Ford Motor Company, Stock Brook Country Club, Bellway Homes, SELEX Galileo, Greater Anglia, Mr Barrie Stone, and others – including Barleylands Farm for hosting the event.”
