MP stresses importance of supply-side reforms

Today in the House of Commons, during a statement by the Prime Minister on the G20 Summit, John Baron MP raised a question about the need for supply-side reforms within the Eurozone.

John asked,

“No amount of shuffling the Eurozone debt around the system between bank and government can erode or conceal its scale. Does the Prime Minister agree that what Eurozone governments should be best doing to narrow the gap between what they earn and spend is introduce sweeping supply-side reforms and reduce the deadweight of regulation on businesses.”

The Prime Minister said he was in complete agreement, and that Britain was pushing this agenda hard.

John said afterwards,

“The 20-plus Eurozone summits have been nothing more than sticking plasters because the central solution to this crisis has not been properly addressed. Austerity can only do so much. Longer term, the better solution is greater competitiveness and economic growth.”
