MP suggests works will commence end of July

Following an incident involving John Baron MP one morning at Basildon Station, which resulted in c2c responding positively with extra security, John has also raised concerns about fare-dodgers gaining unauthorised access to railway platforms. Network Rail is now instigating works which will involve improved boundary fencing behind the platforms, the fitting of anti-climb devices and grills under platforms to block access routes.

 John said:

“Congratulations to both Network Rail and c2c for once again responding positively to our concerns about fare-dodgers at Basildon Station. We must continue to clamp down on fare-dodgers who, through their actions, force up the cost of travel for those of us who pay.”

Julian Drury [c2c Managing Director] said:

“We’re determined to keep improving the security of the rail network and we have worked closely with John and Network Rail to make sure fare dodgers have nowhere to go.”
