MP congratulates Town on leading the way

On Saturday, John Baron MP officially opened Billericay Town Council’s Green Day as part of the Greening Billericay campaign. The launch was held at the Emmanuel Church, Billericay. Over-seeing proceedings were Town Councillors Peter Bowditch and David Knight (Chairman, Environmental Issues Working Party). County Councillor Kay Twitchen, District Council leader Tony Ball and Terena Plowright (founder of the Greening Campaign nationally) also said a few words.

John said:

“Our planets energy, water and fuel resources do need conserving. By joining in this campaign, we can look future generations in the eye and say that we did our bit.”

“Billericay is the first community in Essex to run the campaign, so we can be proud we are leading the way.”

“Congratulations to Billericay Town Council, The Energy Saving Trust and all those helping with the displays and presentations for making this day and the campaign generally such a success. A special mention also to David Knight and Peter Bowditch for driving this forward.”

Notes to Editors

The Greening Campaign is designed so that everyone can feel they can make a difference through implementing small, inexpensive actions. The campaign was initiated in Petersfield by Terena Plowright. The objectives include raising awareness about climate change and encouraging individuals to recognise that small actions together have a huge effect.
