MP congratulates c2c, DfT and Network Rail
John Baron MP today officially opened the new lifts at Laindon Station which provide step-free access to platforms for the first time. The lifts have cost approximately £2m and were funded through the Access to All programme. The programme is a Department for Transport [DfT] funded scheme, managed by Network Rail, to make the railway more accessible for mobility-impaired passengers. It provides approximately £35m a year for accessibility improvements to stations across the country. C2C Managing Director, Julian Drury also attended today’s event.
John said:
“These lifts will make a real and positive difference to mobility-impaired passengers. Congratulations to the Department for Transport, Network Rail and c2c for working so well together to make it possible.”
Julian Drury [Managing Director of c2c] said:
“These lifts at Laindon are the latest in a series of upgrades to c2c’s stations, and I know they will prove a popular addition with our local customers. We will continue to identify where further improvements may be needed on the c2c route, and will work with our partners locally and in the rail industry to deliver these improvements for passengers.”
