MP congratulates Tesco on the initiative’s 21st Anniversary

Today, John Baron MP presented awards to local schools at Tesco Extra, Mayflower Retail Park, Basildon. This was part of the ‘Tesco for Schools and Clubs’ initiative celebrating its 21st Anniversary since it was launched in 1992. Schools were represented by children and teachers who participated. Vouchers were collected by the schools, parents and children and then exchanged for equipment to be used across the curriculum.

John said:

“The schools and parents did a great job in collecting the vouchers. Our congratulations also go to Tesco’s for this excellent initiative. This store gives a lot back to the community and this equipment will be a great help to local schools.  Last year 56 schools and clubs in the constituency benefited from equipment worth £16,000. ”

“I would also like to thank Chris, the store manager, and the team at Tesco’s for all their support for our annual Fun Walk.  Their generosity in supporting our walk helps many good causes in our local communities.”

The local schools at the presentation were, Whitmore County Infant School, Laindon Park County Primary School, St. Peters Roman Catholic Primary School and South Green County Infants School.
