Prime Minster promises to investigate and report back

Today, during Prime Minister’s Questions in the House of Commons, John Baron MP pressed the Prime Minister to clear the blockage by the EU relating to stem cell research.

John asked,

“Parliament gave the green light to stem cell research a few years ago, but we now learn the Court of Justice of the EU is blocking progress by questioning the validity of research patents. Will the Prime Minister look to clear this blockage on behalf of the millions of people in this country who suffer from long-term medical conditions?”

The Prime Minister agreed this was a very important issue, said he would investigate, and would report back.

John said afterwards,

“The many millions of people in this country who suffer from long-term conditions, including those with Parkinson’s and dementia, look to stem cell research for hope. It is fundamentally wrong the EU is both blocking scientific progress and ignoring Parliamentary sovereignty.”
