MP attends Parliamentary reception

John Baron MP has recently attended a Parliamentary reception in the House of Lords hosted by Children with Cancer UK. The charity campaigns on behalf of children affected by cancer, funds research into childhood cancers and provides care and support to families in need. The reception was held to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its foundation.

John said,

“I congratulate Children with Cancer UK on their 25th birthday. The charity provides invaluable help and support to children fighting cancer, and makes a real difference to their lives and those of their families. I wish them all the best for the future.”

“It was fantastic to hear so many good news stories from the children. The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Cancer takes childhood cancers extremely seriously, and will continue to press the Government in this area.”

Notes to Editors:

  • The attached photograph shows John with children fighting, or have fought, cancer. They include:
    • Luke Everett (front row, smiling) who has diagnosed with hepatoblastoma, a very rare cancer, when he was just six months old. Earl diagnosis made all the difference to Luke’s successful outcome. He has been in remission for three years.
    • Katie Oates (front row, sparkly shoes) who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in 2009. Her parents hope that she will soon achieve remission. Her mother, Louise, has raised over £30,000 for the charity through organising ‘Team Katie’ to run the London marathon over several years, including running herself last year. She was also one of the Olympic torchbearers, nominated for her charity work.
    • Kalem Hill (back row) who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma at the age of 10. Thanks to excellent treatment, he has been in remission since August 2011.
    • John is Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Cancer.
