MP says it is right neighbours can object
John Baron MP has welcomed Government concessions to its proposals to double the extent of ‘permitted development’ [the amount individuals can alter their properties without needing to obtain planning permission] following a rebellion by 16 Conservative MPs [including John] when the Bill came before Parliament last week. Although the Government won the vote 285-257, because of the strength of opposition, the Government promised to go away and come back with important concessions – which it has done.
John said:
“For me the red line was always the need to protect neighbours’ right to object. The Government now recognises this, so I welcome the fact the Government has listened and offered this key concession.”
“There are lots of details to iron-out, but at least we are now heading in the right direction.”
