MP says there should be no arming of rebels without the consent of Parliament
Today it was confirmed that John Baron MP and supporting Colleagues have secured a Back Bench Committee debate on Syria, scheduled for Thursday 11th July. The motion to be debated is: “This House believes no lethal support should be provided to anti-government forces in Syria without the explicit prior consent of Parliament”.
John said,
“The Government has discussed the option of arming the rebels. This would be a major policy change, which should not be executed without the prior consent of Parliament. This debate allows us to mark the Government’s card as we head into the summer recess.”
“Parliament should not consider this issue at the last minute, but instead be on the front foot. We do not want to be bounced into any decision.”
