MP says HLF grant is good news for Basildon and Billericay
John Baron MP welcomed Kate Brown of the Heritage Lottery Fund [HLF] to Billericay back in March, to encourage local organisations to submit an application to the fund. Since this meeting six projects have submitted project enquiries about a grant. The Kod?sai Cultural Event in Basildon and Billericay is the first to receive a grant totalling £3,100.
The aim of the Kod?sai Cultural Event is to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Anglo-Japanese relations and to celebrate Japanese culture generally in the constituency. The Event will be held from 4th-6th October 2013 at Holiday Inn, Basildon and include musical performances, workshops from Japanese cultural experts, calligraphy, Nihongo (Japanese language) and martial arts.
John said:
“This grant is fantastic news for Kod?sai, and for Basildon and Billericay. I hope this positive result from the Heritage Lottery Fund application will encourage many more projects in the area to apply.”
Kate Brown, Development Officer, Heritage Lottery Fund East of England, said:
“The Kod?sai event is a wonderful way of sparking people’s imagination and continuing Basildon’s cultural links to the Olympics. We at the Heritage Lottery Fund are always on the lookout for exciting and innovative projects that will get more people involved in exploring heritage. We’d love to hear from you if you think you have an idea you’d like to talk about.”
Marc Grayston, Kod?sai Event Director said:
“We are extremely proud that the Heritage Lottery Fund have decided to award us the grant. We truly believe that Basildon has so much to offer in terms of heritage and culture for our local residents.”
