MP encourages public to check for diabetes
Diabetes UK is running a campaign which aims to reach the 7 million people in the Britain who are at high risk of Type 2 diabetes. The campaign is designed to raise awareness of the risk factors of the condition, which include being over 40, being overweight or having a close family member with diabetes. People can undertake a risk assessment by visiting a pharmacy or by going to their GP.
John said,
“I fully support this campaign run by Diabetes UK. Diabetes is a serious condition, but when properly diagnosed and treated up to 80% of cases of Type 2 diabetes can be delayed or prevented through healthy lifestyle changes.”
“Up to 850,000 in Britain may have undiagnosed Type 2 diabetes, which underlines the importance of having your personal risk checked out. I therefore encourage everyone in Basildon and Billericay to undertake a risk assessment.”
Barbara Young, Diabetes UK Chief Executive, said,
“Diabetes is one of the greatest health challenges that we face. There are 7 million people at high risk of Type 2 diabetes and the rise of the condition is leading to early deaths, health complications and heartache to families.”
