MP welcomes extended opening hours and modern facilities

Today John Baron MP officially opened the newly converted Main style Post Office Branch inside the One-Stop store in Billericay High Street. John met with team members from both the Post Office and One-Stop.

The new Post Office is part of a three-year investment and support programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office which will see around 6,000 branches converting to new style branches, which is nearly half of the Post Office Network. The new style will offer the same products and services but will have longer opening hours and a more modern and convenient retail experience for customers.

John said:

“I am pleased to be opening this refurbished Post Office and shop. It is a major transformation. The open plan counters which make it easier for customers and staff to talk, the extended opening hours from breakfast to bedtime, and more modern facilities generally, are all welcome improvements. Congratulations to all staff and team members for making this possible.”

There are five serving positions – a mix of two open-plan, two screened positions and a Post Office serving point provided for use at the retail counter. This is a new concept for delivering Post Office products and services available alongside retail transactions during shop opening hours.

The new Post Office opening hours are the same as the shop: Monday to Sunday:  06.00 – 23.00. Post Office customers are benefitting from opening hours being extended by 62 hours a week as the branch now opens all day Sunday and the branch opens significantly earlier and closed much earlier every day.

Post Office Senior Stakeholder Manager, Gary Herbert, who is hosting the event, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in this area of Billericay and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.

“The modernisation is part of a major investment programme to convert the Post Office network to new-style branches. This investment, the largest in the history of the Post Office, makes a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
