MP says NHS must make extra effort with rarer cancers
John Baron MP recently attended a Parliamentary reception organised by Novartis Oncology, in association with the NET Patient Foundation. NET stands for ‘neuroendocrine tumours’, which are a complex and rare group of cancers affecting the neuroendocrine cells. Diagnosis of these cancers can be difficult due to the ‘zebra’ effect – where rare conditions are misdiagnosed due to symptoms of a more common one.
John said,
“I am fully behind the excellent work of the NET Patient Foundation. It does a fantastic job supporting patients and their families, and working to improve the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions.”
“Improving earlier diagnosis of all cancers is crucial, as timely diagnosis maximises the chances of successful treatment. This is especially true of rarer cancers, which can be challenging to diagnose. The NHS needs to make extra efforts to ensure patients receive quick treatment.”
