MP: Mandela’s commitment to reconciliation made for peaceful transition
In reaction to the death of Nelson Mandela, John said:
“Nelson Mandela was a great man, who endured oppression and imprisonment for his beliefs in a pluralistic and democratic South Africa. His emergence from prison without bitterness or a desire for revenge, and his unrelenting focus on reconciliation following the end of apartheid, set him apart from most and made for a peaceful transition when many predicted civil war.”
“He was an inspiring man who possessed great humility, and will rightly be remembered as the father of his nation.”
