MP hails strong figures for Basildon and Billericay

This morning the Office for National Statistics released the latest national unemployment figures. Overall, the data is very positive – the unemployment rate has fallen to 7.1%, with 1.3m more people in work than in May 2010. Furthermore, the number of young people in work increased by 77,000 over the last quarter.

In Basildon and Billericay, the number of unemployed benefit claimants in December 2013 was 1,872. This is 74 lower than in November 2013, and 423 lower than in December 2012.

John said,

“We can not be complacent, but today’s figures are very welcome. Unemployment is a social evil, so this is excellent news for the country and for our constituency.”
