John Baron MP to open 150th Anniversary celebrations of The Billericay Reading Rooms

MP will officially open the event at 10.30am on 7^th March in the High Street, Billericay

John Baron MP will officially open the celebrations and exhibition to celebrate 150 Years of the Billericay Reading Rooms, High Street, Billericay on Friday 7^th March at 10.30am.  The exhibition will run from the 7^th to the 9^th March and will include projects from local schools, the Cater Museum and The Billericay Historical Society.

In the mid 1800’s the ‘prominent’ town gentlemen of Billericay formed a group to arrange lectures, social events, musical evening and public readings of popular books by authors such as Charles Dickens. The first official meeting is recorded as 4^th March 1864.

Many original features have been retained in keeping with the conservation Area of Billericay High Street.

John said:

“The Billericay Reading Rooms are a fantastic facility for everyone to enjoy, and one with a proud history. It is only right we celebrate this landmark anniversary and to thank those who look after it on behalf of the community.”
