John Baron MP to open 150th Anniversary celebrations of The Billericay Reading Rooms

MP will officially open the event at 10.30am on 7th March in the High Street, Billericay

John Baron MP will officially open the celebrations and exhibition to celebrate 150 Years of the Billericay Reading Rooms, High Street, Billericay on Friday 7th March at 10.30am.  The exhibition will run from the 7th to the 9th March and will include projects from local schools, the Cater Museum and The Billericay Historical Society.

In the mid 1800’s the ‘prominent’ town gentlemen of Billericay formed a group to arrange lectures, social events, musical evening and public readings of popular books by authors such as Charles Dickens. The first official meeting is recorded as 4th March 1864.

Many original features have been retained in keeping with the conservation Area of Billericay High Street.

John said:

“The Billericay Reading Rooms are a fantastic facility for everyone to enjoy, and one with a proud history. It is only right we celebrate this landmark anniversary and to thank those who look after it on behalf of the community.”
