Nearly 2,000 walkers raise money for good causes

Yesterday, the 2014 Fun Walk broke all records with nearly 2,000 walkers taking part. In addition, as usual there was a barn full of charity stalls, music from of Gateway FM and a great BBQ courtesy of ‘Team Handsome’.

John said:

“I congratulate the 115 charities and good causes taking part – nearly 2,000 walkers is a phenomenal effort and we look forward to seeing how much has been raised. The Marshalls also deserve praise for such a logistic success. It was great to see so many smiling faces.”

“I also thank our family of volunteers, including the Fun Walk Trust committee and trustees, Team Handsome and every other member of the team. Essex police, Basildon Council, Barleylands Farm, Essex & Suffolk Water, Tescos  and our Billericay Town Crier also contributed magnificently to help ensure this success.”

“A unique feature of the Walk is the bonus pot. Our sponsors have so far donated £30,000 this year. Our thanks go to Barratt Homes, Veolia Environmental Services, Hallmark Care Homes, Toomey Motors, Swan Housing Association, Ford Motor Co, IFE Global Logistics, New Holland Agriculture, Selex ES Ltd, Mr Barrie Stone and others. ”

“The Fun Walk has now become the main fund-raising event for many charities in the nooks and crannies of our communities. It combines two of the best qualities in Essex: our charitable ethos and entrepreneurial spirit. No wonder it keeps growing.”
