Hospital first out of special measures

In July 2013 the Medical Director of the NHS, Professor Sir Bruce Keogh, published his report into 14 underperforming hospital trusts, one of which was Basildon Hospital. The review was established following the publication of the Francis Report, which brought to light the shortcomings at Mid-Staffordshire Hospital.

This afternoon, it was announced that Basildon Hospital will be the first trust to come out of the ‘special measures’ required under the Keogh review. Monitor has given the hospital an overall ‘good’ rating for its quality of care.

John said,

“This is excellent and well-deserved news, and confirms Basildon Hospital is on an upward trajectory. My congratulations go to the new management, and all staff, for their hard work and team effort. During the recent difficulties, some of us said that there was always good work being undertaken. This has now been built upon.”
