MP say still further to go

John Baron MP, has welcomed new figures showing that 881 fewer people are claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance in Basildon and Billericay since August 2013. This means more people in work, with the security of a regular pay packet and a brighter future ahead of them. Throughout Britain the number of people relying on Jobseeker’s Allowance has fallen below 1 million for the first time since 2008.

John said:

“It’s welcome news that, over the last year, 881 fewer people are relying on benefits locally. This makes a huge difference to people’s lives. This has in large part happened because the Government has been reforming welfare so it rewards work and backing businesses to create new jobs.”

“Although this is welcome news, there is still further to go if we are going to get closer to our target of full employment.”
