MP welcomes largest annual fall in youth unemployment since records began
John Baron MP has welcomed new figures showing 670 new apprenticeships were started by people in Basildon and Billericay last year. In total 2,750 new apprenticeships have been started in Basildon and Billericay since 2010. Across England as a whole, more than 1.9 million apprenticeships have been started since 2010 – with the number of apprenticeships having more than doubled in this parliament.
John said,
“Apprenticeships can help people get onto the jobs ladder. This is why 2,750 new apprenticeships since 2010 is good news as it means more young people in Basildon and Billericay getting the skills they’ll need for the future.”
“These apprenticeships have helped to bring youth unemployment down by over 250,000 over the last year. This is the largest annual fall since records began. There is still much to be done, but these figures are a dramatic improvement when compared to many countries across Europe.”
