MP urges all to check bills to avoid overpaying for energy

Today in the House of Commons, John Baron MP intervened on the Secretary of State for Energy, Rt Hon Ed Davey MP, during a statement on the Annual Energy Statement.

In the House of Commons, John asked,

“Given the myriad of deals and tariffs, which is one reason there has been so much miss-selling on the doorstep, will the Right Honourable Gentleman now recognise one of the biggest achievements of this Government has been to oblige energy companies to make it clear on bills whether customers were getting that company’s best possible deal – the transparency which has benefited many customers?”

The Secretary of State responded by complementing John on the role he played in implementing this initiative – many of his recommendations being taken up by Ofgem.

Afterwards, John said,

“Clearer information on energy bills has been a great step forward for customers, making it much simpler and easier to switch to a supplier’s cheapest possible tariff. This has helped bring down energy bills, and I urge everyone to check their bills to avoid overpaying for their energy.”
