MP congratulates school on excellent initiative

Today John Baron MP joined Mike Wade, Head of Quilters Junior School, Billericay to participate in their ‘it’s great to British’ week. The Department for Education is keen for all schools to develop a ‘sense of Britishness’ amongst their pupils. Mike is hoping to email the details of the events taking place during the week to the Times Educational Supplement in the hope that it will provide other schools with a strong model to emulate. The four key principals to be explored are: Democracy, The Rule of Law, Respect & Tolerance and Individual Liberty.

John said:

“It was great to see the pupils dressed up as part of this excellent initiative. I enjoyed sitting in on the debate about changing the school timetable, and many good contributions were made.”

“Our democracy, the rule of law, respect & tolerance and individual liberty are all reasons to be proud to be British. My congratulations go to Michael Wade, his team and the kids for this initiative which I hope will be taken up by other schools.”

Michael said:

“This week, the staff, children and I have enjoyed celebrating the many reasons why it is great to be British. It is important to us, as a school, that our pupils choose to live by a strong moral code and that they have a wide, well developed set of wonderful personal qualities. We want them to celebrate diversity, to be tolerant and respectful of others. We want them to believe in democracy and individual liberty. They will lead industry one day; they will know how to make a difference and how to make Britain even greater!”
