MP meets with students during visit to Parliament

John Baron MP recently met with teachers and students from St Peter’s Catholic Primary School, Billericay. The students had been on a tour conducted by the Parliamentary Education Service which was followed by a workshop. This workshop gave students the chance to further their understanding of Parliament. John Baron MP was invited by the school to meet the students after their workshop for a chat and to answer any questions they might have. John spoke to the group of students from Years 3-6 about the role of an MP and demonstrated how Parliament works by holding a debate on whether chocolate should be free in the shops.

John said:

“This was a good Q&A session. The pupils asked questions about my role as an MP and how laws are made. The ‘chocolate debate’ helped to show the group how the House of Commons works and gave rise to a number of thoughtful speeches by students. It was good to see both teachers and pupils enjoying their visit.”

Angela Moreton, Headteacher said:

‘Our School Council annual visit to the Palace of Westminster is always a highlight of the School Council’s year. This year, the children were thrilled to be able visit both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, and really enjoyed the lively and interactive workshop on how new laws are made. They were very excited to meet their own MP, and we are always very grateful to Mr Baron for taking the time to come and spend time with the children, and answer their questions.’
