MP urges bus users to respond to Council proposals

Essex County Council is currently conducting a thorough review of contracted local bus services across the county. In particular, the review will be looking for examples of market failure, where there is currently no commercial bus service despite demand, and will assess whether a council-contracted service is required.

The County Council conducted a number of Area Review Meetings in June and July, and has used the suggestions, comments and ideas raised in these sessions to revise the bus network. The Council is this month carrying out a more detailed consultation, setting out the range of proposed route and service revisions to the contracted local bus network.

The consultation takes the form of a district-based questionnaire, available online at www.essex.gov.uk/busreview, as well as in public libraries and through parish, town and district councils. For those who do not have access to the Internet, hard copies can be requested by dialling 08457 430 430. The consultation is now open, and closes on 21st October.

John said,

“I urge local bus users to look at the County Council’s proposed revisions and have their say by responding to the consultation. This is their opportunity to help shape local transport priorities, and it is important all those who value the bus network have their input before the Council draws up its final plans.”
