Yesterday in the House of Commons during Education Questions, John Baron MP pressed the Secretary of State for Education over future Government spending on Mayflower High School and The Billericay School following the withdrawal of the Better Schools for the Future [BSF] programme. Both schools had applied.
John said:
“The Secretary of State is absolutely right to order a review of his Department’s capital spending. When he does decide how to allocate capital, will he look favourably on the schools that reached the very final stages of the BSF application process and suffer greatly from dilapidation, such as Mayflower High School and the Billericay School in my constituency?”
The Secretary of State responded by confirming that dilapidation would be one of the factors the Government would consider when allocating spending, together with demand for pupil places.
John added afterwards:
“Both these schools put a lot of effort and expenses into the application process – it was not their fault that the BSF programme was inefficient and slow. I am also now pressing the Minister to meet with both schools.”
