MP says fairer immigration system only possible if we leave the EU

Appearing before the Treasury Select Committee on 2nd March, the Chairman of Britain Stronger in Europe (BSE), which is campaigning to remain in the EU, admitted that wages would rise if Britain opted to leave the EU. Lord Rose admitted that if the number of immigrants coming to the UK falls, the price of labour will increase – thereby increasing workers’ wages.

In the same session, Lord Rose also admitted that he could not defend the claim that each family benefits from the EU to the tune of £3,000 a year, a claim which the Committee Chairman, Andrew Tyrie MP, described as ‘dishonest’ and a ‘scandalous misuse of data’.

John said,

“The admission by the chief supporter of the ‘remain’ camp that workers’ wages will increase in the event of Brexit proves there is nothing to fear from leaving the EU. There is now no doubt that unlimited immigration has dampened workers’ pay, particularly at the lower end of the scale, and has put a great strain on our vital public services.”

“Instead, we should switch to a fairer points-based immigration system open to the whole world, not just the EU, to enable the best and brightest to live and work in Britain. However, this will not be possible unless we leave the EU.”
