MP presses Essex County Council and Police

Having been contacted by concerned businesses in the local area about alleged illegal activity and dangerous behaviour by the group of travellers who have been illegally camped on Chester Hall Lane, John Baron MP has raised concerns with Essex County Council and Essex Police.

Local businesses have raised concerns with John about a lack of action in relation to criminal damage, vandalism, littering and concerns about the safety of children in an industrial environment, as well as enforcement in relation to trespassing. John has received assurances that the Police will act in relation to criminal behaviour and that Police patrols in the area have been stepped up. He has also been in contact with the County and Borough Council regarding enforcement action in relation to their illegal occupation.

John said:

“I was concerned to hear from a number of sources about illegal activity allegedly being undertaken by traveller groups in the area, and that the Police response had not been adequate. Having raised this directly with Essex Police, I have been assured that they have a zero tolerance approach to criminal activity and that reported concerns will be investigated and acted upon.”

“I am also pressing Essex County Council regarding enforcement given that the traveller group appears to be in breach of the ‘Code for Unauthorised Encampments in Essex’. Having neither moved the required two miles from the site nor adhered to rules relating to the dumping of waste, the County Council needs to investigate and take appropriate action as necessary.”

“I am monitoring the situation closely – when broken, the law must be enforced.”
