MP: we are a great country with a bright future

Following the response to the referendum result, John said,

“In respecting the wish of the electorate to leave the EU, it is now incumbent on all Parliamentarians to roll up our sleeves and begin the long but exciting task of resetting our place in the world for the benefit of our constituents. Calm optimism is now needed. We are a great country with a bright future ahead of us.”

“We are approaching the moment we can stop unwanted EU taxes and regulations, start negotiating trade deals with the faster-growing parts of the global economy, and begin introducing a fairer and controlled immigration system which does not discriminate against the rest of the world outside the EU. Our finances are also set to benefit as our EU subscriptions cease.”

“We now need to instigate a credible plan for our exit negotiations, which ensures we continue to trade with Europe whilst we expand trading options globally and introduce a controlled and fairer immigration policy.”

“Reheating the arguments from ‘Project Fear’ is not in our country’s best interests. We remain in a strong economic position, and more opportunities will result from the Brexit decision. We will continue to trade with, and enjoy living alongside, our European neighbours, but we will no longer be part of an EU set on monetary, fiscal and political union.”
