MP attends Prime Minister’s major policy speech in London
This morning John Baron MP was in the audience for Prime Minister’s major policy speech on increasing selective school education, as a means of improving school standards and boosting social mobility. There has been a formal ban on founding new selective schools since 1998.
John said,
“I welcome the Prime Minister’s initiative to improve our school standards. For too long an ideological barrier to selective education has held our pupils back and hindered social mobility. Our education system should be a true meritocracy, where the ability to succeed is dictated by a pupil’s ability, and not by local house prices or their parental income.”
“However, it is essential that no pupils are left behind by the reforms, and more detail is required as to how this will be achieved. I look forward to debating this policy in the coming months.”
