MP joins Billericay Residents Association at the Billericay Reading Rooms

Last week, John Baron MP visited The Billericay Reading Rooms at the invitation of the Billericay Residents Association, to hand a time capsule to the Cater Museum. The capsule contains a variety of objects that should prove interesting when it is opened in 10 years’ time.

The ceremony was celebrating the 90th Anniversary of the Billericay District Residents Association, and so will be opened on the centenary. One of the items contained in the capsule addressed people’s hopes and fears over the next ten years. These included, transport and infrastructure fears for the local community along with green belt concerns, renewable energy and high street issues.

John said:

“I congratulate the Billericay Residents’ Association on this initiative. It is interesting to see some of the hopes and fears contained in the capsule – a hope being that Billericay Football Club would get promoted, a fear being that they would be relegated the year afterwards!”

“What is evident is people’s wish to see the character of the High Street maintained. We have a good balance between day and night trade which we wish to maintain. We must be on our guard to ensure this continues.”
